Board of Supervisors Makes a Move
Supervisor Horvath introduces a "Motion" to create a Rebuilding Authority for the County
The ink is barely dry on the Blue Ribbon Commission and Supervisor Horvath filed a motion for the Board of Supervisors meeting tomorrow tasking the County to spend resources trying to put together a path to create a Rebuilding Authority with a report in 7 days. It took 6 months to get to this point so now we have to hurry? What’s the rush? We suddenly realized we need to do something or we want to drop this project before the 4th of July holiday and hope nobody pays attention? What is with these electeds trying to do things in the dark of night? Did you ask Altadena? Did you get support from the community? Nope. No support for this Motion.
The Supporters (5) are Westside (City of Malibu), and members of the Blue Ribbon Commission. That is the echo chamber if I ever heard one. Let me opine on my work that I did and cast that as authoritative. Not impressive.
Well, now we have something from Altadena. We put in comments today. We opposed the Motion. If you want to oppose it (and you should), it is very easy to do. Go to the website and input your comments. You do not even need to do anything other than put in your name and click “oppose.” It is Item 17 on the Agenda.
Of course we did. The Motion is self-serving. It talks about housing. It discusses land purchases. Hmm…we do not need an Authority to do it. We have the tools already. We have had them since January. We do not need to wait. We do not need the impression of propriety. TIFs can be done right now. Why now did they pay attention and use their people to support it? What the purpose?
Authority.
It is about the election in 2028.
It is about Power.
It is about imposing a will from the West Side. I ask again, do you see any comments in support from Altadena? Nope. Westside dictating the rebuild on us.
Who are the most affected by the Authority and who should be listened to?
Altadena. 40,000+ residents. The majority of the Palisades is the City of Los Angeles. The proposed Authority only applies to the County. That is us, not them. “Not like us” to quote Kendrick.
Supervisor Barger, the Motion and its proposal is not what we want. We want choice. We have our path. Can we stop playing games and focus on solutions? Can we shelve this idea with those of SB 782 and get on with doing the work?
The community does not want what Supervisor Horvath is proposing.
Supervisors Solis, Mitchell, and Hahn, please hear this- No. We do not want the Motion or the Authority. We are the residents of Altadena. We are the ones who will be and are most affected. We are the ones who want to choose our path. If Malibu wants an Authority, let it set one up itself with the County support. Altadena, the majority of this disaster, says no thank you.
